Salford School Run Attracts a Thousand Runners

On the first anniversary of the government spending review, school sport in Salford continues to thrive despite the cuts to the School Sport Partnership network announced by Michael Gove back in October 2010.

Today, around 1000 pupils, parents and staff will take part in the Salford School Run. Starting out at Lowry Plaza, the route will take in the view of an Olympic Venue and BBC Media City. The course is 2012 metres long and marks the first in a series of events for schools in the build up to the Olympics. All Hallows RC Business, Enterprise and Sports College as the hub-site for School Sport Partnerships in Salford have supported, organised and funded the event in partnership with NHS Salford. Active Synergy is bringing their experience to ensure the event runs smoothly.

Programme Manager at Active Synergy Lee Povah said, “The Salford Schools Run is a great opportunity for schools to raise much needed funds. Active Synergy specialise in training and education, as well as event management. We aim to deliver a fresh and modern approach that exceeds expectation. We are delighted that so many parents, teachers and pupils are using the Salford School Run to allow School Sport to continue to flourish. Furthermore to empower Schools so they can support; mass participation, community values and healthy living.”

Year ten pupil at All Hallows Gracy Ungudi said, “I am really looking forward to the school run. It will feel like our very own Olympic Marathon. I ran in the 200 metres final at the Salford Schools Athletics Championships in the summer but this will be a new experience.”

Partnership Development Manager at All Hallows RC Dean Gilmore said, “The Salford School Run provides all schools with a unique opportunity to take part in an event in the shadow of a London 2012 venue. I am sure that regardless of the weather all the young people running will remember the day and cherish their very own ’2012 medal’. This event has been supported by NHS Salford and we are very grateful to them.”
